The Attorney General has an exclusive role to play as a Minister. One element of the Attorney General’s function is that of a Cabinet Minister. He is in charge of representing the interests and standpoints of the Ministry at Cabinet, at the same time representing the interests and standpoints of Cabinet and therefore the Government to the Ministry and the Ministry’s privity.
 The Attorney General is the principal officer of court of the Executive Council. The responsibilities arousing from that role are different from those of any other member of the Cabinet. The function has been denoted as “judicial-like” and as the “guard of the public interests”. A lot has been reported on the issue of ministerial responsibilities and the exclusive role of the Attorney general.
There are different constituents of the Attorney General’s function. He is responsible for the courts, legislature and the executive branch of power. As there are various accents and nuances connected to these there is a broad subject through all different aspects of the Attorney General’s responsibilities, which the office has: a constitutional and conventional liability beyond that of a political minister.
The constitutional responsibilities of the office are stated in section 5 of the Ministry of the Attorney General Act. Section 5 saysĘ The Attorney General (a) is the officer of court of the Executive Council; (b) shall oversee that the management of public matters is according to the law; (c) shall supervise all issues related to the organization of justice; (d) shall execute the duties and have the authorities, which belong to the Attorney General; (e) shall give advice the Government on all issues of law related to legislative performance and on all issues of law submitted to him or her by the government; (f) shall give advice the government on all issues of legislative character and supervise all governmental actions of a legislative nature. (g) shall give advice the chiefs of ministries and organizations of government on all matters of law related to such ministries and organizations. (h) shall carry out and administer all proceedings for or against any ministry or organization of government with regard to any issue within the jurisdiction of legislature; (i) shall supervise all issues related to legal offices. (j) shall carry out other functions that are given to him or her by the legislature.
