The most abandoned person in any criminal or civil legal case is usually the client. Lawyers spend too much time getting ready for the case and cooperating with other attorneys and the court that they frequently forget about setting relations with their clients.
Each case has a “critical point” when the lawyers think that their clients should take their advice. However, the client won’t usually do what recommended at that critical point as the lawyers didn’t consider the relations when the representation has just started.
To help promote the significant relations with the client, consider the following hints.
1. Realize that your client is under a great stress because of the case. Keep in mind that as he or she is focusing on the case, the client will overlook considering other essential things.
2. Ask your client to write you about him or her as much as possible. The client will definitely feel better and get a chance to share his or her thoughts. The client may write that when not in your office and have some time to collect some facts and information. It is just incredible what the attorney can learn about the client.
3. When meeting your client, tell him or her when you meet again. As a rule, clients are pleased to meet their attorneys, but they have no a connection between the meetings. If you plan in advance as to when the client will meet you another time, then he or she has something to think of prior to the next meeting. That may seem to be an unimportant thing, but the client needs that sort of connection.
4. The client requires some information! A number of attorneys think that the clients are not smart and will not understand anything so that the lawyer tells the client nothing. It is recommended to provide the client with the copies of everything you deal with.
