A system that acts as a safety net for all citizens of the country is called Social Security. In this case you will have to produce your birth certificate plus some other form of identification. If you want to get a replacement card, then you must provide satisfactory proof of identification. But you may want to change the name on your social security account as a result of a name change. This requires producing your marriage certificate, court order of divorce, or court order of name change. You have to know that originals or certified copies of documents must be produced - photocopies of documents are not acceptable.
The following are documents you will have to produce when applying for social security profits:
1. Your social security card.
2. Your birth certificate.
3. Marriage certificate.
4. If you are an employee or your most recent federal income tax return if you are self-employed, then you will have to have your recent W-2 form.
Extra documents may be required by the Social Security Administration. If so, be sure, they will let you know what you need to have. But if you do not have all of the required documents currently in your possession, in any case you have to go ahead and start the application process. Besides, the Social Security Administration can help you in getting the documents during the application process.
